The world is going through unprecedented economic turmoil and we are entering a new world. The economy is going to take a major shift and the world will change for either better or worse. We cannot accurately determine the outcome of the jobs and businesses once this pandemic is over.

However, by evaluating our current situation, we can make some predictions and assumptions on how everything will be. The entire world has never been put on pause before. Many companies (small, medium, and large) are being forced to adjust to the current situation.

Many small and medium businesses have been forced to shut down while many large businesses were similarly downsized. The current situation is affecting the business and company owners as well as the employees. People are losing their traditional jobs.

The current situation has led millions of people to unemployment and jobless. What will happen to these employers and employees in the post-coronavirus world is still in the dark. That being said, the biggest question has been raised.

Should the people who are unemployed or still employed wait for the pandemic to end or should they adapt, modify, and acquire new skills? The latter option seems more reliable and effective in the current scenario. To understand how the careers of the employees will be affected, we first have to know how the companies are running now or how they will run in the future.

How are the Existing Businesses Adapting?

Before the ongoing pandemic began, working from home used to be considered as luxury or privilege as employees had enough time to work as well as tend to the matters at home. However, luxury has become a necessity now. Companies and businesses were forced to switch to work from home or remote work.

Every company is trying to sustain the current economy by adapting different measures for their business. They are coming up with innovative methods and different approaches as to how they run their business. The immediate step was to switch to work from home as no one knows how long this pandemic will last.

As a result. the demand for video conferencing software such as Zoom, Google Meet, Skype has risen quite drastically as communication is a key factor in running a business. Employers are also relying on employee monitoring software such as Apploye, InterGuard, MangoApp to keep track and measure the productivity of the employees.

Furthermore, businesses are using digital marketing as their means of promotion. Even businesses that have never had a Facebook page started to open their website! They are using different ad platforms such as Google AdWords or Facebook ads and other promotional methods instead of only relying on traditional marketing.

It just means that companies are completely relying on virtual methods and digital strategies. They are realizing the opportunities that lie online. Once things get back to normal, most companies will still prioritize these methods because it is becoming our “new normal”. Moreover, it also cuts costs and time very effectively. Every business and company always looks for a new window of opportunities and the online world is providing it. That only leaves how the careers of the employers will be affected.

How will it Affect Employers Careers?

Since existing companies will bring change in their business models, the way the employees they hire will change as well. The most important thing to note is that the job market will be extremely competitive. As many companies were forced to pack up their business, there will be a huge gap between job applicants and the number of jobs available.

The economy has made many businesses broke as well so they will hire fewer employers than they did before. Many companies will move to artificial intelligence and the use of more virtual technology so the nature of the employees they hire will change. Therefore, job applicants with certain skill sets will be required.

The employers will have to adapt and learn various skills that will fit the company’s business model. Employers will have to prioritize on skillsets that are not easily replaceable with artificial intelligence or with any other technology. If an employer already has exceptional skills, he/she will have to polish and make it better than before as the competition will be much higher.

The job you are doing now might not exist after the pandemic is over. Therefore, you must have a backup plan or an alternative where you can earn money. Another important thing is to look for the skills that will survive both the pandemic and the economic fallout. Here are some of the important skills that can greatly help an individual generate income regardless of how this pandemic end –

  • Coding
  • Digital Marketing
  • Project Management
  • Closing a deal
  • Copywriting

Each of the skills is considered core skills in many industries so however the world changes, these skills will be vital for a company to survive in the post-coronavirus world. There are certain industries whose employees are still unaffected because the pandemic is helping those industries boom. The careers of the employees will see a positive rise even after the pandemic ends. Some of these industries are

  • E-learning
  • Delivery Services
  • Medical Products
  • In-home Entertainment
  • The software industry, etc.

Conclusion

There is a phrasing that goes like “the sun rises after enormous darkness”, it means that plenty of opportunity sparkles after huge disasters. The Coronavirus will shape the future of the businesses, the companies, the industries to a certain extent.

How the employers respond will completely depend on how they utilize the current situation and move forward. One thing the pandemic has taught us is minimalism. We are living with the minimum necessary things.

Similarly, the companies will look forward to running the companies with the minimum cost still in the future. However, opportunities will still rise and how the employers will grab the opportunity will determine how they shape their careers in the futur
